Expo Milano 2015 has officially started. With the opening of the gates at 10 AM in the morning of May 1st, it was kicked off the largest worldwide event dedicated to food. 184 days of events taking place from May 1st 2015 to October 31st 2015, on an area of about 1.1 million square meters in the area of Milan Fiera Rho.
“Feeding the planet, energy for life“, is the core theme chosen for Expo Milano 2015. This common thread runs through all the events organized both within and outside the official Exhibition Site. For six months, Milan will become a global showcase in which countries show the best of their technologies, to give a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to provide healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, in respect for the planet and its Equilibrium. In addition to the exhibitor nations, the Expo also involves international organizations such as United Nations and European Union.
With more than 20 million visitors expected and more than 11 million tickets already sold, a number of 148 countries rapresented, record number of participants in the long history of the World Exhibitions. Expo Milano 2015 will provide an opportunity to reflect upon, and seek solutions to, the contradictions of our world. There will be 80 pavilions including 54 individual countries and 9 cluster that welcome various countries associated by a food reference. There are clusters of cocoa, rice, coffee, cereals and so on… Expo Milano 2015 will be the place to enter into an exchange of ideas and shared solutions on the theme of food, stimulating each country’s creativity and promoting innovation for a sustainable future, this event will offer everyone the opportunity to find out and taste the world’s best dishes, while discovering the best of the agri-food and gastronomic traditions of each country.
It is worth of being mentioned what has become the symbol of this event: “the Tree of Life”, the icon of the Italian Pavilion, designed by Marco Balich. 35 meters high, large 42, is made of steel and wood by a consortium of more than 19 companies. Every hour, for six months, will offer lights, fireworks and water shows.
The Universal Exhibition in Milan is an opportunity for the city and for the Whole Italy. Attracting visitors means attracting tourists staying in the city, who will maybe take a train or a plane to visit the most charming Italian cities. Tourists who eat, buy and let the economy go round. Expo Milano 2015 is a great opportunity for Italy, a moment for all to feel united, leaving a good memory of our country to the many visitors and make sure that the Expo is a springboard for economic recovery!
